Occupation systems engineer | Choice of profession. how to choose the right profession

1. What is the name of your profession (position)? My profession is called systems engineer. 2. What is your job and what are your responsibilities? Local and global computer networks are complex structures with a multilevel topology. My responsibility is to maintain the integrity of the network structure, maintain its segments and maintain and repair each individual computer (installation of the operating system, other software components, repair of failed parts). 3. What education is required to get your position? Theoretically, a systems engineer should be a specialist in computer networks and microelectronics, but my example refutes the theory. I graduated from the university with a degree in Electrical Machines and Apparatus, but from the first year I was interested in computer networks. This interest determined my current work. 4. Describe your working day. My working day starts with a cup of coffee. And after that, you can begin to solve pressing problems. I usually start by scanning computers: checking if everything is online, what folders are shared, what is the speed of data exchange. If I find problem areas, then I start searching and eliminating the causes that caused the network to malfunction. After I put things in order, I start repairing computers or adjusting software. This work is constantly lacking - far from the most experienced users work at computers, therefore, equipment drivers constantly “for some reason” fly off or programs stop working. During the day, I walk through the offices where computers are installed, inspect the appearance, the condition of the connected equipment - this is a guarantee that the machine will work longer and with fewer repairs. During the rounds, I communicate with the operators at the same time - I find out how the computer works, whether there are any speed problems, whether all network services are available to them. My working day is irregular - I leave work when all problems are fixed, and the network works like clockwork. Although it turns out to leave mostly on time, since serious problems rarely happen and are quickly resolved. 5. How comfortable are your working conditions (all day outside, or in the office with a cup of coffee)? Working conditions, I think, are comfortable: I spend most of my time in the computer center (this is the name of my office), sitting at the table in front of the computer. 6. What do you like most about your job? My work brings me satisfaction and joy from what I have done, and what makes me happy cannot but be liked. 7. What do you dislike most about your job? The negative side of my work is the presence of frankly unskilled people in the staff of computer operators. They keep adding the job of reinstalling software to me. 8. If it's not a secret, what is your salary level (is it enough to write whether you are satisfied or not)? The level of my salary at the moment I am quite satisfied. I earn an average of 16 thousand rubles a month. 9. Describe your team, what kind of people work with you? My team consists of very different people aged from 22 to 53 years. But, despite this, we became friends, and are ready to help each other both at work and outside of it. We organize corporate parties, sometimes after work we meet in a cafe and talk on various topics. I think that my team is very friendly, it is easy for me to communicate with people with whom I work, and this is mutual! 10. What human qualities, in your opinion, are most important in your business? A person of my profession is characterized by such qualities as patience, attentiveness, good memory, accuracy, and the ability to think outside the box. Since the scope of my professional interests is connected with technologies that are developing very quickly, it is also necessary to have a desire to improve oneself, to learn oneself. 11. Work gives me additional opportunities (everything that work gives you except money, from self-expression and communication with interesting people to the opportunity to visit different countries). Sometimes, when I'm not too busy with things, I can afford to watch a new movie or surf the Internet. If you need to download a large file, then at my service is a line of unlimited access to the global network. This "built-in function" of my position nicely complements my professional duties, which are already not a burden to me. 12. Do you have the opportunity to evaluate your work on a five-point scale, what grade would you give? I rate my work at 5, and it cannot be otherwise. I believe that if the work does not reach at least a four plus, then such work needs to be urgently changed. 13. Why did you choose this job? I was offered the position of systems engineer when I was still a fifth-year student. For me, this offer was flattering, a kind of assessment of my knowledge and talents. Given that my interests completely coincided with the proposed position, I, without a moment's hesitation, agreed. 14. What do you think we did not include in the plan and what else would you like to share with us? I would like to supplement my story with what compensation for quality work my employer provides me (after all, the salary does not fully reflect earnings): the best employees of my company are provided with vacation packages at reduced prices, some work-related expenses are compensated. For example, I have a work mobile phone, the costs of which are paid separately from wages. Taxi expenses are also compensated if I am urgently called to work on a weekend or at night. 0
