1. What is the name of your profession (position)? I have one of the most wonderful professions, which allows me to constantly receive a lot of new, interesting and useful information, develop logical thinking and train my brain, as well as expand my horizons, i.e. discover something new and exciting every day. I am a translator. I am mainly engaged in written translations. 2. What is your job and what are your responsibilities? My job is to translate various texts (from documentation to fiction) and type them into a text editor. 3. What education is required to get your position? In principle, if you have studied any language to perfection and are fluent in your native language, then the lack of higher (and any specialized education) will not be an obstacle to work (unless, of course, you manage to convince a potential employer of your competence, which sometimes happens more difficult, due to the fashion for higher education). Basically, translators have higher education. But it must be taken into account that without constant and incessant self-education it is impossible to become a good translator. Language is a dynamic and evolving structure, so a good translator must constantly "keep up with it". 4. Describe your working day. My working day starts at 9:00 and ends at 18:00. But, if it is necessary to complete the translation on time, then sometimes the work can take up to half the night, which, however, happens extremely rarely. My working day looks pretty monotonous: almost all the time I have to spend in front of a computer monitor or with a dictionary, if the vocabulary is so specific that it is not in online dictionaries. However, my work also has advantages: no one keeps me in the workplace “from start to finish”, you can always take a break, have a cup of coffee and have a snack. 5. How comfortable are your working conditions (all day outside, or in the office with a cup of coffee)? I spend almost the whole day in the office, although sometimes I have to finish something at home. The office has everything you need for comfortable work, and on the ground floor of the building there is a wonderful cafe where you can always go for lunch. 6. What do you like most about your job? I like a few points: 1. The ability to set the pace of work yourself: you work at the speed you like (within reason, of course). 2. Translation is a constant exercise for the mind. People with narrow thinking have no place in the translation business. 3. The opportunity to communicate with people from different countries, to study the peculiarities of their culture, their traditions, lifestyle. 7. What do you dislike most about your job? There is only one minus - many hours of being in front of the computer. Tired eyes, back, and very felt the lack of physical activity. 8. If it's not a secret, what is your salary level (is it enough to write whether you are satisfied or not)? Quite acceptable. 9. Describe your team, what kind of people work with you? The people who work with me are the same fans of their business, tolike me, so the atmosphere in our team is friendly and non-conflict. 10. What human qualities, in your opinion, are most important in your business? The most important qualities are: perseverance, attentiveness, efficiency, attention to detail and a responsible attitude to work are also very important. 11. Work gives me additional opportunities (here is everything that work gives you except money, from self-expression and communication with interesting people to the opportunity to visit different countries). As I said, there is an opportunity to communicate with different, interesting people, visit many countries and get in touch with different cultures, as well as significantly replenish your knowledge base in various fields. 12. Do you have the opportunity to evaluate your work on a five-point scale, what grade would you give? I think that there is no limit to perfection, so I'll give myself a four. 13. Why did you choose this job? There is no routine in my work, no unnecessary scribbling and formalities. I am sure that I will never get tired of my work. But, as you know, “happiness is when you happily go home from work and from home to work.” 14. What do you think we did not include in the plan, and what else would you like to share with us? Nowadays, with the development of the Internet, more and more highly qualified translators are leaving agencies, preferring one-time earnings as freelancers to permanent employment. Working as a freelancer has a lot of advantages and disadvantages, however, that's a completely different story…. 0
